The Challenge

"A State-level AOC (Administrative Office of the Courts) needed a quick-turn translation solution to support limited-English proficiency victims of domestic violence. 


The Analysis

Limited-English proficiency victims of domestic violence who turn to the Courts for help typically make statements that need to be translated and provided to an awaiting Judge within a very short time frame, so that important decisions around restraining orders, child custody, and other protective measures can be taken.

Human-level translation accuracy is critical for these court documents, as well as the technical ability to read handwriting, accommodate low literacy levels, and work within established court processes and protocols--all with urgency.

The Implementation

The Prisma Language Ops Team developed a secure intake portal for AOC Court personnel to submit translation requests 24/7. Once received, the content underwent character recognition (especially in cases of handwritten text) and pre-translation, followed by human translation.

Additionally, Prisma implemented a custom formatting and layout solution to ensure the content mirrored the corresponding Court form.
